5 Windows Command Prompt Tricks You Probably Don’t Know

5 Windows Command Prompt Tricks You Probably Don’t Know

image

We tend to use the command prompt quite a lot here at How-To Geek, so we decided to show you 5 tricks we use in the command prompt that you might not know–read on to find out what they are.

Send a Command’s Output to the Clipboard

Note: This will work for any command.
How many times have you used the ipconfig command only to copy and paste the output?  You will never have to do that again as you can simply send the output directly to the clipboard.
ipconfig | clip

Open Command Prompt From a Folder

Have you ever opened the command prompt and entered endless cd commands trying to get to a folder ? If the answer is yes then you will pleased to know that you can actually save a lot of time by opening a command prompt within a folder from Explorer. All you have to do is hold shift while right-clicking on a folder and the option will appear in the context menu.

Command History

You most likely have been pressing the up key to get to your previous commands, but this can be a pain when you are trying to track down a particular command. One other way you can view your past command is to use the doskey command.
doskey /history

Drag and Drop Files to Change the Current Path

Another neat trick if you are not a fan of opening a command prompt from the context menu is the ability to drag and drop folders onto the prompt and have it automatically enter the path of the folder.

Run Multiple Commands In One Go

Our final trick of the day is one that many command line geeks may already know, the ability to run multiple command at once by linking them with double ampersands. You can do this with any commands and you can link up as many as you want:
ipconfig && netstat

window shortcut

List your favorite shortcuts and tricks when using windows here!!

Here's one to start --

WindowsKey + d = Show Desktop

TRY IT! hehehe :P

Thats a good one, the other one I use is WindowsKey + L which allows you to switch users :)

Since I have at times as many as 10 or more windows open at once a nifty little keyboard shortcut that instantly minimizes all open windows:

Ctrl+Esc immediately followed by Alt+M

That's my alltime favorite. I also like Windowskey+E to bring up the Windows Explorer and Windowskey+R to bring up Run. I also use Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+C to copy Ctrl+Z to Cut, and Ctrl+V to paste. Very convenient shortcuts when copying code and hypertext links.

Well I don't use too many shortcuts for Windows, my main ones have all been mentioned, well except Alt+F4 to close out the current window.

Hmm, I know a few tricks but they don't come to mind right now... here is one that does.

In Windows XP Professional you can go to Start > Run > gpedit.msc This allows you to edit group policies. Although you can change a lot of settings in here, my favorite thing to do is go under User Configuration and then under Windows Settings, in there is an option for Internet Explorer Maintenance. You can change the title of your internet explorer (who it says it was provided by at the top), you can change the toolbar background or even give it a custom logo in the top right (the thing that moves as the page loads)

Theres more in there, but you can explore ;)

Have you ever been to a site that opens up all the images in a pop-up. Only that pop-up is 1 size and not resizeable so sometimes the images get cut off because these people don't know what they are doing?

Well in a pop-up windows that has the resize property set to false so you can't resize, you can hit F11 twice to be able to resize it depsite the resize property.

Dirty trick yes, but sometimes it's necessary.

know there's fewer people using Win98se nowadays, but I still use it (for now) to a large degree. I always hate seeing that MS logo during boot. To remove it, open MSDOS.SYS in a text editor (Notepad works well - make sure you've nixed the "read only" property or you won't be able to save it). Under the options line add logo=0 or change logo=1(if that's already there) to logo=0. Save. (reset properties to read only" to be on the safe side.

There you have it - no more MS blue screen logo! There is also a way to change the MS logo to one of your own, but I'd have to review my notes at home to remember exactly how.

F6 automatically highlights the URL in the address bar of IE - copy and paste at will.

Add YouTube Associates To Your Site In Webmaster Tools

youtube associates
For any blog or website, having multiple online presences is one way to gain visitors’ trust. These presences can be Facebook Fan pagesGoogle Plus Business Pages, YouTube channels, and other social media profiles. But for webmasters, running a website and managing all these accounts is one hell of a task, and often consumes a lot of time. In such cases, webmasters can assign administrative roles to trusted people. And Google is here to help! Using Google Webmaster Tools, webmasters can now easily add associates, or trusted users, to manage their YouTube presence for them.

Remove deactivated Profiles from your Facebook friend list

Remove deactivated Facebook profiles
Facebook might be the largest social network in action today, but it isn't without its flaws. A lot of changes made by Facebook seem to cause problems for the users, especially the ones made in 2012. First, the Timeline, then the ticker and the ability of friends to add you to groups without permission. Then there's this problem regarding deactivated and deleted profiles in your friend list. Since the changes made, people started to notice old profiles (and new) that had been deactivated in their friends list. Now this isn't a problem, but it sure clutters up your list and inflates your number of friends. You can easily find and delete these profiles from your list and clear up things.

Sevenuseful Windows 7 tips and tricks

Microsoft Windows
1. Bypass the Recycle Bin
The Windows Recycle Bin is a good safeguard against accidental file deletions. However, when you know you want to permanently delete a file, you can bypass it. Instead of pressing the Del key, press Shift+Del, then Shift+Enter to confirm.
If you prefer, you can also permanently disable the Recycle Bin. First, right-click on the Recycle Bin, then choose Properties. Click on the drive you want to disable the Recycle Bin for, then select "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted." Click the OK or Apply button to save the changes.

2. Open Windows Explorer faster
Are you still mousing over to a Windows Explorer icon or double-clicking on My Computer to browse your files? Try pressing Windows Logo+E instead, to instantly launch Windows Explorer.
3. Enable underlining of keyboard shortcuts
Windows has many menu shortcut keys, but they're hidden by default. To enable the underlining of the shortcuts, go to Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Change how your keyboardworks. Click on the box next to "Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys," then hit the OK or Apply button to save.

To view files, folders, and drives that Windows hides, open the Windows search box (Windows Logo) and type folder. Next, select Folder Options from the search list and navigate to the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, check the box next to "Show hidden files, folders, and drives."

Internet technology has made a rapid progress. Internet has many functions. One of them is that it has become a medium for introducing the products of a company. The products can include goods and services. By using internet, the advertising can reach a larger range of consumers with cheaper costs. Recently there has been a tendency for many companies to use blog advertising to advertise their products. This advertising can be in the form of pay per click advertising, text link ads, or paid review.
Many online companies have run paid review programs. One of them is Link Post. This online company serves as a broker who connects advertisers and bloggers. In one side, advertisers want to introduce their products through a review. In the other side, bloggers want to get income by writing reviews for advertisers. This advertising system is easy to do.
